In far-western Ethiopia, Gambella is a vast wetland and savanna wilderness shaped by the Baro and Akobo river systems. Its seasonal floodplains support white-eared kob, Nile lechwe, buffalo, elephant and remarkable birdlife.
The experience
Gambella offers a very different safari rhythm: huge skies, flooded grasslands and wildlife movements that follow the seasons. The park forms part of the wider Great Nile Migration landscape, making timing especially important. This is a remote journey best planned carefully around access, permits, guiding and seasonal conditions.
